Recently, I won the book Perfume from over at Obsessed With Books. It's about a mass murderer who has an absolutely sublime sense of smell. It looks to me like it's going to be gothic fiction at its very best. I can't wait to receive it! Be looking for that review.
In the meantime, I want to know about what kinds of perfumes you, my readers, enjoy.
When I was growing up, I actually hated perfume. I was kind of like the murderer in the book, born with an extra sublime sense of smell. And sometimes perfumes can be overwhelming. My mom would always spray herself in the car on the way to bring us to school, and I would inevitably end up arriving at school with a migraine.
I don't hate perfumes anymore, but I still have trouble with really strong ones. I like light, fruity smells. I have this great Shea Butter vegan perfume mist from Victoria's Secret that I absolutely ADORE. I also love Victoria's Secret Pink. It's light and fragrant and anything but overwhelming, although I still can't figure out exactly what it smells like.
I also love strawberry and pear smelling perfumes. There's something that just seems wonderful to me about smelling light and delicious like fruit. At holiday times, I also like perfumes that smell like the holidays - peppermints or hot chocolate or cinammon or apple cider.
You're perhaps noticing a pattern here - I like to smell like the foods I love. :-)
And with the holidays coming up, I'm hoping the people I love can also smell like the foods I love. This year, I'm all about the stocking stuffer perfumes. I'm picking something out for all of my family. When you think about it, perfume really is the perfect small gift to be found in a stocking, right next to that awesome book you've been dying to read!
So, what about you? Are you guys planning on giving perfume this holiday season? And what kinds of scents do you like? Do you like light and fruity or heavy and musky?

I have to be very careful with perfumes as I'm an asthmatic and strong smells can bring on an attack. One of the only perfumes I can wear is Nina which is just as well as I love it - the red bottle shaped like an apple is also amazing. Hubby wears Calvin Klein number 1, one of those supposedly unisex smellies and I love that as well.
Perfumes bothered me a lot more when I was a kid, but I'm still not a fan of reading books that smell like they have been doused with perfume (although the smell of cigarette smoke is far worse).
I gravitate toward the fruity smells too. My current favorite is one that smells like Cherry Blossoms, so it's kind of flowery, but more sweet like cherries.
(Oh, and for men's scents I can't stand anything that smells like Old Spice - yuck! I much prefer scents that have a fresh soap type of smell on guys.)
I have different perfumes for different moods - like Zen by Shiseido when I feel like being a bit more serious and "grown up" or a sweet Britney Spears number for when I'm feeling flirty or Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea when I like to feel fresh and summery. So yeah - all dependent on mood :)
By the by, I wrote a review of Perfume a wee while ago if you'd like to check it out:

I really loved the book, hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
I'm allergic against most perfumes for men and I love to smell them. That's really annoying for bf cuz he not allowed to wear the ones that make me sneeze.LOL
I love Hugo Boss Deep Red for me and Cerruti Image for bf cuz it's a non sneezer for me.
And The Perfume is wonderful book. They made a wonderful movie (directed by Tom Tykwer) about it. This one is wonderful too. Hope you enjoy the book!
Not a fan of Old Spice either Alyce - its right up there with Brute as a smell of dads/uncles/grandfathers thinking they are trendy. Yuk
I know what you guys mean about Old Spice - it gives me a migraine pretty much immediately. My boyfriend is not allowed anywhere near it.
And I'm with you about cigarette smoke, Alyce. It's the worst ever. If a book smells like smoke, I just can't read it. As it is, the only place I go where people are allowed to smoke is outside. And even that is hard for me, living in France.
I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who dislikes Old Spice. :)
Read this one, oh it was great and so messed up for sure. That last scene, oh my
I have heard a lot about this book from various people. I am not a huge perfume person. I like the way it smells, but I don't really put it on that often.
Hi there! I've had this one on my shelves for years and I STILL havent' read it.
I look forward to you review and thanks for the follow!
